【About the Regional Challenge Project in Life Career Design A】

This year, in the Life Career Design A course, the class focused on the “Where” from the 5W1H framework and chose Sendai as the location. The regional challenge they addressed was:

Revitalizing Jozenji-dori Avenue.

When thinking about future careers, many students tend to focus mainly on job descriptions when choosing companies or organizations.

However, in order to truly thrive in a job, it’s also important to consider the living environment that forms the foundation of one’s daily life.

Where and with whom will you work after graduation?

This year, we encouraged students to consider their future from multiple perspectives, and as part of that effort, the course included engagement with local community issues.

By creating opportunities for students to interact with the local community during their time in university,

they were able to discover different lifestyles and ways of working that they might otherwise have overlooked.

This year’s project focused on the revitalization of Jozenji-dori Avenue,

which was once known as the symbolic face of Sendai.

Jozenji-dori, once considered the face of Sendai, has lost much of its former charm and walkability. As a result, the number of visitors and the vibrancy of the streetscape have decreased. If this trend continues, it may become difficult to maintain the unique atmosphere of Sendai. This is not only a local issue—it reflects challenges seen across Japan.

In response, 132 students in 18 teams conducted fieldwork, held discussions, and presented their ideas to help revitalize Jozenji-dori while developing fundamental workplace skills.

In collaboration with the City of Sendai and NHK Sendai Broadcasting Station, students learned about successful examples of community revitalization and local policy initiatives.

Among the teams, the group “Banbaro” moved forward with making their plan a reality, and in partnership with “Banbaru Sendai”, a Sendai City initiative for downtown revitalization, they are now organizing the event “CHEAT DAY for the Soul.”

🎶🍴 About “CHEAT DAY for the Soul”

The idea of a “cheat day” comes from taking a break from everyday restrictions and stress.

This event will provide a space to release tension through music, art, and food while connecting with the local community.

This event is full of the students’ passion and creativity.

We hope many of you will come and enjoy it!
